I have bedazzled lighting.
You have a rechargeable torch that you plug in to the light cord and the light illuminates the stable, I have a chain of six that work off one torch. If you rig them up to a car battery instead of the torch the light is almost as good as mains.

Not cheap but so easy to set up and use

This thread still has some very good advice : http://www.horseandhound.co.uk/foru...run-off-of-a-battery&highlight=Battery+stable

I've run my yard 'off grid' for many years, I only require a generator for random clipping, but these days prefer to pay a friend with cordless clippers. All stables and the 2 x field shelters close to the yard have good lighting run off leisure or car batteries which are topped up by solar panels :)
