BBC 2 secret life of a dog on now

It's very interesting so far

Its really intresting i like it!
Some of the research seems a bit like pointing out the obvious though...i wasnt at all surprised that dog owners could tell different barks apart....other bits are realy cool though!

What a clever girl Betsy the border collie is!
Although my mum's labrador has always been able to retrieve the toy I ask him to - he knows the words for 'big football', 'green ring', 'reindeer', and a couple of others because I've tested him!
I'm not sure he'd recognise a picture of them though?! I might have to try that.

Barney could do a few toys by name, and I think Henry may have learned too - the other night I said to him that we would do some retrieving with 'Ducky' in a bit, and next thing you know Ducky had joined us on the sofa

hmmm i dont think i want a wolf as a pet!
nature not nurture indeed...

Then again i rember the first time i meet the collie in pups in my siggy...
they had been born in a badger hole on my uncles farm as their mother was a scared stray..
they had never met people before but when myself and my cousin sat and waited for them to get over the fear and they ventured out...
they were friendly and licked and played with us...even though they had never met people before... i cant imagine wolf pups being like that!
amazing creatures dogs!!

Am I being naive to expect that they ever get out of those cages?
Well done BBC for making a great documentary about dogs. For once

HR, thanks, that is exactly what I yelled :P

And agree re stating the obvious - barks are pretty easy to tell apart and yeah, a wolf cub is gonna tear your house apart!

Also - while watching, heard a horrible noise and looked out to see our cat and the feral having a fight on the doorstep

Well if enough of us shouted German Shepherd at them maybe they will have heard !
Hated seeing those silver foxes in the cages but thought the programme was really interesting. Just goes to show those boring people amongst us who say research pedigrees etc when getting a pup do have a point

I expect a lot of dog owners do recognise different barks, and I am sure I am not the only GSD owner who can recognise a Shepherd bark before we see the dog. A good programme I thought, nice to see dogs get some good publicity.

Watched the show today and have to say I was very impressed....and suprised that I was impressed
wink.gif

Think it had a good balance of interisting science and numpty explanations for non science people(OK,OK,for me
tongue.gif
) and covered some very interisting topics.

Had to laugh stupidly at the wolf cub jumping on the table, seen the black and tan from photo above do all that 1000000 too many times
tongue.gif
and his howl was STUNNING,very wolf like and completly different to hers.
The idea that they have learnt to read our micro body language is completly fascinating, was not at all suprised that the dog owners could work out the barks though-who couldnt?
