That is a really interesting programme, thank you for posting. It is a shame Eriskay's seem to be forgotten as a native breed, I hope they survive as the numbers are already so low. It is slightly worrying that all the Eriskay ponies today descend from one stallion in the 1970s though. I've only watched the first 30 mins so far, but I love the old footage and photographs.

Yes, I agree its worrying. I know one herd (not the one shown, on a different island) that has a higher proportion of rigs than is usual. Their vet thinks its because of inbreeding.
I also found myself hoping the Rum Highland breeders weren't concentrating entirely on looks & colour. All these breeds were developed for certain terrain and specific work. I do hope they don't lose sight of that.
