There was an item about obesity in horses, from the Blue Cross at Rollaston. A man from the BEVA said, quite clearly, that all that horses need is grass. Full stop. Owners only offer supplementary feed because their horses will love them for it!! NO mention of fodder at all. And as they stood behind a gypsy cob, that the apple shape of the quarters indicated obesity!!
I have emailed the BBC asking for them to clarify, sending a picture of Reg in his "nearly didn't make it" days (below) and a condition score chart, and BEVA pointing out their error but really, it could encourage novice owners (of which there are many) to feed NOTHING!! Hopefully owners of the land on which they keep their animal will put them right but.....................well, it WAS the BBC.
