nope, no way would I watch that ... can't stomach it, no justification in the 21st C. Don't even want to think about how those people treat their horses when I think about how I treat mine, and how much I get back.

Didn't some of the horsemen/women? get invited to the Queens birthday celebrations at Windsor this year but turned down the offer because they were far too important to attend?

Sadly there's not just one Palio in Siena per year. Also other places in Italy have their own palios, sometimes its horses racing, sometimes its donkeys and sometimes its boats!
Animal welfare has never been top of the agenda for Italy, after all, given their liking for horsemeat maybe the fallen will end up on the menu! To me, its a sick spectacle, from all the religious guff and the corruption to the race itself.
