Hi

What is the pre novice like at berks college? sending my entry off today, really not sure what to enter - intro or PN ? Cant find any pics on net, any ideas on what the water is like aswell? I have been told its all pretty straightforward?

Sx

Think the PN is ok, have heard that is is quite inviting, there is a big ish drop in it but think that rides well.

This would be a better 1st PN then Eridge

I'm entered for the PN too

Heard its a short, straight forward course.
Looked at the course on ER.com from 2005-looks nice, nothing difficult.

argh ! I dont have er.com membership I have eww and they dont have the pics ! Whats the water like ?
He went round mattingley last weekend like a machine, our only problem really is water, he isnt to keen on jumping down ! But i supose all we can do is have a go !

My ER membership has run out so I cant look for you! BB's should know.

Most PN's ive seen lately have drops off into water (which im sure they never used to have) and at Mattingley there was a carved naked lady on a log then a drop into water! (as im sure you saw!) There was an alternative but not really a PN fence.

The rest of BCA is quite inviting so im sure the water is

Not a huge water-more like a water splash-looks like a log, stride into water, then stride out to another log, but plenty of room to PC kick your horse through.

Thank you Paris ! Think i might brave it !
Im picturing it now, jump - stop dead - sarah in water!
If all goes horribly wrong will take him back for a couple ore intro's !
Hollyjane - that was quite an impressive water at matt! Not sure if it caused many probs's! they decorate so well there!

I dont have membership for either. I just remember from ER.com a while back. I havent jumped into water on the little guy either, so have no idea if he will

lol

Well when I was walking the course all I could hear was "a stop at the 2nd water" !!! I was thinking god what is this water going to be like!
crazy.gif
But it rode fine.

I think be brave and go for it

And as for you BB's!! Snoops will fly of the end into water im sure!
grin.gif
He is great XC

HAHA who knows. I hope youre right, tbf to him I really should go and practise it.

The water at Mattingley last year (PN) jumped really well, i was disappointed that we didnt have to do more for the intro tbh! although probably wise we didnt after he played sillybuggers going down to it - nothing to do wtih the water (as we were no where near) but because home was behind him

)

Maybe you should! But im sure he will be fine, he is a cool dude!!

Luckily Spider loves water - one less thing to worry about!

Connor on the other hand, water isnt his best friend! So going practising again tomorrow, he goes in just very slowly!

Mattingley wasnt a great track for the nappy inclined horses, quite twisty going away from home a couple of times, obvioulsy at no 1 but at no 3 and the 2nd water as well.

Dont i know it!
We snaked to the first because of a horse finishing, plus just running across the road to 3, we were fine then until the trakenher and had to jump that on an angle
smirk.gif
and it was only the bit between fence 13-14 we had a paddy lol

Hes slowly getting better, its only his 2nd run so i guess hes allowed to be a little bit like that.

My mare was always slow into water, literally galloped up to it then walked gingerly through lol then gallops on again haha. But she loved jumping into the stuff!
Snoop just drops to trot and then canters through - i was very pleased with the ski jump as hes never done anything like that. Im hopeful he feels the same about drops into water, but you never know. I know Gt Tew doesnt jump into water so im happy with that.

just called BCA and weather permitting the BE course might be one for schooling on weekend of the 2/3 June - perfect as a day after that and we wouldnt be able to do it and the BE event, and I have to call next week to see and if it is open i expect Saf & Elles will come, so if anyone fancies a schooling sess - come on down !
The woman there couldnt remember what the combo is for the PN, she said it might just be step down and jump on way out. - I really need to practise !

Well I have only taken Connor XC schooling once and I got a lead through then he went by himself and in the end I was cantering through etc, then did some fences and went back to the water and he trotted straight though. So hopefully just being a bit of a baby about it!

Its just seeing things isnt it the more different types of fences they see the better! But as they are babies you find yourself walking the course thinking "crikey they have never done drops" "They have never done narrows" etc etc!!!
grin.gif

I think after mattingley there isnt many ofther fences to practise? they seem to have everything there.

Sounds like C wont have a problem with water. If he was trotting and cantering through after having his lead.

Snoop loves cantering through water, my problem he creates so much spray i cant see a bloody thing lol

We have a skinny after a drop on a 4 stride curve going down hill at Gt Tew, haha that could be a laugh *gulp*

No there cant be many more fences to practise after Mattingley to be honest they had a great variety there. Cant wait to go back in July I do love that event
smile.gif

Just need to remember to sit up!! Especially on babies they find those sorts of things so much more difficult going down hill!

And yes hopefully Connor has taken it in and tomorrow he will go straight in! we will see!
tongue.gif
I will report back!

Actually might be a log, stride, step down into water, then through, stride to a log.
Sarahs-what is your horse like just walking into water/stepping down-if in doubt just take it all at a snails pace.
Twesledown is superb for water practise-lots of drops of varying heights into water-slopes to trot/canter down etc.
My horse was really nappy about water, really not impressed about being asked to jump into it. Spent 1/2 hr at Tweseldown playing about in the water and he now flies in usually with me hanging on for dear life to the end of buckle on my reins....

Here's a piccy of the BCA water:
PN%2016.jpg

Looking at it PN you jump the log, step, water, log. Intro: go through the water, then the log?

Cant see pic either! Argh!
Thank you for double checking for me though! He is really bad at water but getting better, what Uv is very good at is getting used to something at one place and then not doing it somewhere new! I have spent quite a bit of time water schooling at tweseldown but that place is like home to him!
I received a round of applause at the water at mattingley as we got down to it and he slammed him breaks on - i just dropped the reins, kept my leg on, gave him lots of praise and he did it! He is a typical show jumper - eyes it up to see if he cant jump the whole way across it! - Just talking to elles and she said that hoplands is fantastic to go for schooling, looks fab on website.
We've got borde this weekend but thats intro so im not expecting it to be too tricky !

eeeee!!!!!! Thank you ! Doesnt look to scary ! Log looks at a desent enough distance away for him to jump it without being to worried about water and hopefully the momentum (sp) of the jump will encourage him to jump down!
Just from that pic it looks like a lovely course !

Okay Dokey, little log drop in, thats doable then lol
Do we think the flags although on the left is flagged as orange (intro) where the white flag is the PN should be able to (in theory) run through water instead of jumping in? sometimes they give you the option.....

Hmmmm....then probably do as your doing and practise as much as poss at different venues. Borde Hill's water is actually quite 'spooky' as steep hill down in shade, then through and up steep hill the other side, but for intro you just have to go through, or at most small drop in, so will be a good test for you horse! But lovely-so hope I haven't worried you....sorry!
Also I find useful, when hacking-probably more winter than now but go through large puddles and if hesitant, really make them-same when schooling xc-ride a strong, forward going trot and push on-even with a few taps with stick behind saddle-mean business, and make sure you position is secure so you can slip reins and sit back if you end up getting left behind. Then praise once through the water.
