Might soundlike a daft question but I've searched through BD website and can only find the online form to register for me and not the horse - I assume we both need to be registered? Any idea how I go about it and how much it will cost?? Thanks!

You have to register first, and then once you have registered you will have full use of the site and can then register your horse

Once you are a member you can register the horse online. I think horse registration was about £50 a year, but the year is a rolling one, so does not finish in December!!

You will both need to be registered for Novice level upwards however your horse does not have to be registered if competing at Prelim level but you need to be a member- if you want to compete in Prelim Qualifiers. Your horse has to be registered if you go to the Regionals. If you are unsure you should phone BD and they should be able to answer any questions.

Its bloody expensive and unlike BSJA they dont offer any discounts on their membership rates.
Pretty harsh simce prize money is poo and its more expensive to enter classes.

Hmmm

BD
Rider Membership - £60 or £54 if by direct debit
Horse registration - £50
Total £104 - £110

BSJA
Adult full membership - £113
Grade C horse registration - £66
and of course, the more successful your horse, the more it costs to register it.
Total £179

And you think it is BD which is "bloody expensive"?

Entry fees BSJA seem to average around £15, BD vary from £12 - £20 depending on the class. Prize money BSJA is better, but then organisers can get 3 or 4 rounds of jumping done in the time it takes to do a dressage test., As show jumping makes more money, they can afford to give higher prize money.

The answer to the main question is as stated. Only members can register horses, so the on line horse registration doesn't become available until you have joined.

Oh - and joining online is convenient, but you don't get the option to do direct debit. Therefore it is cheaper to do it the paper based way and set up a dd.

It works out a bit cheaper than BSJA. BD does not charge more for the grade of the horse like the BSJA, I do agree the prize money could be a bit higher

but since I don't often get any I'm not too worried!!

With BSJA if your a new member u get 50% discount first year, or if your a returning member after a three year gap.
If your BRC member you get 25% off each year.

Plus u actually win money above the entry fee! I went to a elem winter qual won it and got back £18 woopeedo!
When we were jumping in Fox it was £50 to the winner and entry fee of £10!

So really that does make BD expensive!
