BD / BRC Rules - Earrings

Does anybody know the rules regarding wearing earrings? I went to a show last weekend to do dressage and was advised after my first class that earrings weren't allowed for safety reasons and I could get a telling-off by the judge if she noticed. They weren't dangly or anything, just studs to match my stock pin. I don't own a rule book for either BD or BRC and wondered if somebody could clarify for me.

can't wear them at BRC but always worn at BD

They are a no no for Pony Club but often seen at BD competitions (studs not danglies).
