Can anyone help please? I have a loose ring straight mouth metal snaffle bit that my pony goes very well in, now if I look in the rule book loose ring straight bars are legal however it has what can only be described as ripples in the surface which my instructor tells me makes it known as serrated. (God it sounds horrific but really isn't) So my question is - is this bit dressage legal?

I'm pretty sure a serrated bit is illegal, but do you use it with the serrated side against pony's tongue or away from? If you use it away from then the serrated bit doesn't really come into effect, so you could change to an unserrated one and pony should still go the same.

I agree however I am having real problems trying to find one without the serrated bits! I used it tonight with the serrated bit towards the tongue but to be honest I really don't think the serrations made much difference, he just seems to prefer the straight bar action.

No, the ""bobbly" happy mouths (or similar) are not permitted. The mouthpiece of the bit must be smooth. It doesn't matter that you fit the bit with the bobbles away from the tongue, it is still not permitted.

Nathe make a synthetic straight bar that is OK.

Yes, they do them with a loose ring too
