Hi Guys

I entered my first affiliated last week and to my surprise came 2nd in both classes.

I didn't realise until afterwards that it was advertised with prize money. I contacted the organiser querrying if it was correct but she hasn't responded.

I'm just wondering what the normal practice is really prize money.

Thanks

Congratulations on your successful first outing!

It will depend on how many people were in the class. From this year's rule book:

39. Prize money
Prize money is mandatory, except for Freestyle to Music and Para Equestrian classes.
The number of prizes given and the amount of prize money, or type of prize if in kind,
must be stated in the schedule. Once stated, this can only be reduced in the event of
starters falling below the minimum scale as shown in the table below.

No prize money 1 – 4 starters
1st place 5 – 8 starters
2nd place 9 – 12 starters
3rd place 13 – 16 starters
4th place At the organiser’s discretion

Organisers are free to exceed the minimum scale if they wish to do so.
Starters are as per the number of horses published on the class results and includes HC,
retired or eliminated entries.
The amount given for first prize must exceed the entry fee. Prize money will be paid
per class e.g. over all sections, unless stated otherwise in the competition schedule.
Vouchers/prizes in kind can only be given if in addition to prize money.
Where prize money is provided by a National Sponsor at Regional/Winter/National
Championships, the number of prizes must be awarded as published in the schedule,
regardless of the number of starters. For Area Festivals, first place prize money is
mandatory and then the table is to be followed dependant on entries.

That's really helpful thanks!

I have only been paying since October so eventually might get a rule book

Most venues also state in their schedule that the prize money is overall per class so say for example they were giving prize money to third place and you were second in your section but your score was lower than the three highest scores for that test irrespective of whether they were in the bronze, silver or gold section then you would not get prize money.
