Do you think, or have you noticed a difference in scores in different regions?

The reason I ask is because judges in my area seem to have a reputation for marking low. A lot of the competitions I go to you really have to earn your marks, but when I travel abit further out my marks seem to improve. Certain judges dont seem to like to give over 60% and a lot of the time the winner hasnt even gained a qualifying score.
A friend of mine competed locally and was gaining around 63%. She then went further south and gained nearly 70% on the same horse. The horse didnt go any different to what he usually does. They all get the same training to become a judge so surely there shouldnt be such a big gap.

Is it that the quality of horses is better down south and so people gain higher marks, or is it just that people up north are crap?

i wouldn't say that

and i'm down south, but there are defo venues in my area where you you know marking will be tight as 'a ducks ass' and other venue better where you can pick up points.
But i'm at lower level and some times i think it's got to do with level of judge, so better listed judge is looking for higher level of training, but doesn't allow for the fact there judging the lower level if you know what i mean.........
But then when you have a higher graded judge and they give you an 8 you know that movement is correct and then can try and trainer other other movement which they've panned you on!!!

I am originally from up North, Well Stafford, Midlands, but moved to London when I was 17, so I hope its not because we are from up North!!!

Cant really answer your question though, although I did notice scores were lower up North...

Seriously tho - i find at some venues (regardless of the judge) i never get over a certain percentage, and at others i always get a high mark regardless of how awful i think my test has been

What you need to do it come down South for a while and compete here and see if it is any different, then if it is go back up North and ask the Judges "whats the score"??!!!!
