I am pretty sure it will be indoors as I have only ever competed indoors there in the winter, not that I have done regionals though but when I went last month the outdoor schools were used for warm up and were pretty soggy.

Last year, you warmed up in one indoor school & did your test in the other. It means if you're doing 2 tests on the same day, you can have quite a wait between classes. I did my prelim at 10.15am and my novice was 4.45pm!! (they started the prelim at 7.30am & finished the elementary at 10.30pm

thanks so much for all your help everyone...
quarrybank were there many in the classes last year then?? sounds like an aweful lot of people went...is the standard really high too?
thanks, kate

i've done 3 winter semi's at patchetts and they always use the indoor arena on the left for tests and on the right for warming up. in my novice last year there were about 40 - classes there are always huge and the standard is always high at the winter semi's - after all everyone there has won at least 2 classes above 65% to even get there.

There were about 45 in the Prelim & about 40 in the novice. The standard is high, but remember you've qualified to get there too!!
I was placed 10th in the prelim

& about 2/3rds of the way down in the novice (not helped that he'd had enough by the time he went into the 2nd test & bucked in his 2nd canter

... oppps!!!) I've got an ISH who was bought to event.
I'd def go if you've qualified rather than do the area festivals.
The number that qualify depend on the number in the class. I think it was the top 3 in both, plus if you finish 4th or 5th you may get a wild card (my friend did- she'd finished 4th in the prelim regional & she's got a 15 yo fell pony & then went on to finish 3rd at the winter championship.)

Good luck.

yup, number that go through depends on number in class and how many they decide they want at the finals, then wildcards for highest percentages which usually go to the busy winter semi's that have a higer quality - eg patchetts and addington.
