Went to Eland lodge for an affiliated dressage today for Troy's first competition in 14 months. As some of you may or may not know Troy had a very nasty rearing & napping problem, he was written off from dressage so you can imagine my delight in being able to get back out there with him.
Well got there OK. Warmed up really well was very pleased went in to do Prelim 7 qualifier & all hell broke out. They had a big yellow bin behind the fence of the arena & you had to go past it in order to get in the dressage arena. Troy said no way, we went up down up down round up down but not forward. He really did take me by surprise, but thats what Troy does best. Luckily i was last in & went in early the judge had to let me work it out. Eventually i got him forward & in we went lovely down the C line & we where away. Then we got to the change of rein straight to that "blinking" corner up again we went, but i caught him & pushed him on. He continued the test & did a lovely one.
Went to see the results & couldn't believe it we had managed 63.5% & 4th place even with rear included.
The thing is he hasn't reared since last year & he was very above himself with the atmosphere. I think in hindsight i should of warmed up for longer for this test. But i was very pleased he was placed. I was even more pleased that we completed the test lol..
Apologized & thanked judge & got a round of applause when we came out lol. I was embarrassed but i did see the funny side to it all.
Next up Novice 26 qualifier, warmed up again brilliantly, same arena so i was expecting similar. Not this time he really listened did a lovely test. Came away with guess........... 1st with 65.2% & 3 more points couldn't believe it. So he's part qualified now for the novice regionals. Not bad for a nag that got written off from dressage.
Judge was fair but was marking low today there where lots of tests in the 55-59% range.
Only got warm up pics as my helper(mum) called my tests. Thank god she did.
All my hard work has paid off today, I'm so happy with him. He seems pretty pleased with himself also lol.
I will point out that he is wearing a red ribbon in the warm up, he isn't a kicker. The reason he was wearing this was because in our very last competition in Sep 06 we got run into by another rider & i came off. So armed with this & not ever wanting it to happen again i decided to put a red ribbon on to give us some room.
May sound stupid to some but to me it was the intelligent thing to do for his first outing.
