I went to my first BD competition of the New Year on Saturday and had a fairly successful time. My dressage trainer has set me the challenge of qualifying for the summer regionals at Prelim and Novice level. We qualified at prelim for the winters but ended up not going due to the 'it's off, it's on' fiasco.

The day did not start out well when I somehow managed to fall down the stairs at home, landing on my bum and elbows and then bumping down 3 stairs. It was very sore and my poor elbows were completely skinned. I was determined I was going to the show though so took a couple of pain killers and struggled on.

The weather at the venue was fairly kind to us as it stayed dry but was characteristically blowing a gale but thankfully Grumpy Boy doesn't like to expend excess energy fussing about such things

. A couple of horses in the warm up were definitely on their toes because of the wind and we had to dodge out of the way of one horse who spooked at something and came careering towards us at a high rate of knots.

Because GB had been a bit backwards during the week I decided to ride him in spurs in P17. In retrospect this was a mistake as he was a bit sharp in the transitions and didn't feel as relaxed as normal. We ended up scoring 65% and came 2nd but didn't qualify.

I ditched the spurs for the N33 and he went much better. I completely messed up the two 10m loops by riding them far too shallow and scored a 5 for them both but apart from that I thought the test rode well. We ended up with 65.2%, came 1st and qualified for the Regionals!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And we won £16!

Sorry for being so self-indulgent!

Congratulations! I went to a training thing at the weekend, and I think I would have been that rider careering towards you! Well done for qualifying!

Thats really good well done. Following on from PGs thread, if you were 2nd with 65%in the prelim that gives you half qualification. You have to be first or second in two prelims with 65% or over to qualify.

Well done, those are good scores.

i thought you had to win two classes to qualify for the regionals tho? or have you already won one?!

In Scotland you only need one win at 65% or more to qualify. It's different up here!
