BE Balloting....help!!

Best way to avoid it seems to be volunteering :) it's usually due to too many or not enough entries in a particular class or section, yes you would get your money back (not sure if they keep an admin fee)

If you really want to do one event then you can use your sticker you would have been sent - the one that you can use to emphasise how much you want to do that event. If you really really want to do an event which you know will be oversubscribed (such as the early ones) then by volunteering and putting that information on you can normally get on. It was the only way (when Stileman was running) I could be sure of getting a run in! plus which that was an event where they did look after you and I felt I was giving something back.

I THINK that...People on tickets are balloted first, then people where the horse/rider is a member, but not both, then people who are members and their horses are members, then those using stickers. There are two types of sticker - one for each month, and a super ballot sticker, which I thought trumped everything, but I was still balloted out at Somerford Park when I used this - they did have a lot of people who stabled there, and they seemed to get in... As someone said, offering to help on another day when you're not riding would help greatly...

As I said on the thread on CR, balloting is usually fine, and only a problem at really popular events, or in years when a lot has been cancelled.

You do get your money back, but it may take time...

You get a full refund if you are balloted, although some events are quicker at refunding than others! BE say the ballot is random, however if your last name is Fox-pitt, you tend to be balloted less than the humble one horse amature! If you volunteer to help at the event you are pretty much guaranteed a run at that event. You also get 1 ballot sticker every month, use this at the event you would most like to run at, this should just about guarantee you a run. The schedules list how many people were balloted from the event the previous year, so this should give you some idea how popular the event is.

thanks guys, this (below) does seem to be the case!! ...
