Ok so I’m a bit miffed if I’m honest ? daughter entered her first event if the year and has been balloted on both horses. We expected one of them because he was on a ticket, fair enough, but the other is not. Now I wouldn’t have a problem with this BUT, having looked at the entries, some riders have managed to get multiple rides in the same class and or different classes. Does this seem fair, or am I being unreasonable? Just a bit gutted for her, as like everyone else, she’s been chomping at the bit to get going, she works full time including every Saturday, so she’s limited to only being able to compete on a Sunday ☹️

Its probably worth using your ballot stickers to ensure an entry
Yes unfortunately daughter entered herself this time, I’ve always done it in the past, so it’s a lesson learned for her, however, I still think it’s a bit mean of BE to give some multiple rides, when balloting others with just maybe 1 horse entered? with the situation as it is, everyone is keen to get going aren’t they? I just hope she gets a bite of the cherry later in the year or she’ll most likely not bother paying her membership again ?

this, with the way entries seem to be very high with lots of people wanting a run, i wouldn't expect to get in without using a sticker at the mo.

The balloting rules are very clearly set out and a pretty fair system IMO

  1. Entries from full members using super ballot numbers
  2. Entries from full members using ballot numbers, up to two entries per competitor
  3. Entries from members which the organiser specially wishes to accept
  4. Entries from full members using a ballot number giving a third entry per competitor
  5. Entries from full members without ballot numbers, giving up to one entry per competitor
  6. Entries from full members without ballot numbers, giving a second or third entry per competitor
  7. Entries from pass competitors on season ticket horses using a ballot number
  8. Entries from full members on horse passes or entries from pass competitors on season ticket horses without a ballot number
  9. Pass competitors on horse passes
  10. Incomplete or incorrectly submitted entries
  11. Unpaid entries

There is a set and transparent ballot system. If you choose not to use a sticker it’s at your own risk.

Remember that multi horse riders often have owners who also pay their membership and have just as much right to see their horses run. Indeed are often disadvantaged due to the cap on rides.

I guess I just thought that with the way things have been lately, BE might have tried to give as many people as possible a chance to run. Just because one person with one horse can’t afford multiple horses or multiple memberships, under the circumstances, wouldn’t it be nice if they shared it out a bit better? For example one rider has 4 rides in the same class ? obviously nobody agrees with me which is absolutely fine, I just feel really bad for her. My mistake for trying to make her more independent both financially and otherwise I guess! ?

You’ve completely missed my point.
The ballot system does share it out and not evenly, owners of horses with a pro are at a disadvantage!!

Oh gosh as a mum with an eventing daughter I understand how upset you both must be. Sorry she's not getting a run. Super ballots are your friends and I know the pros used them on their entries but even then some were balloted out. Still lots of events to come so not long before she's back out.

It's even worse when you use your super ballot and the whole level gets balloted in favour of the bigger classes.

You have achieved that! She will learn from that mistake and won't do it again.
