Was going across to BE Culzean today with OH and his horse as my horse had to withdraw due to concussion in leg due to hard ground (ha, ha!). Well, it was lashing it down this morning so I phoned early to double check things were still on as forecast was awful. Didn't want to drive for three and a half hours to find out it wasn't on.
So, told it was absolutely fine and running to schedule, and set off.
Half way there I phoned again as the weather was getting worse. Couldn't see a thing and the rain was heavier than ever. Nope, still running, so off we set again. OH really wanted a run as the last 4 BEs he's entered have been cancelled!
Arrived and we could hardly move for the sea of mud that greeted us. The dressage arenas resembled ploughed fields. My OH looked like he was mid xc whilst doing his test, and I was impressed he survived the experience, given he only dabbles in the odd competition.
I swithered about him doing sj, but off he went and did a good round, despite conditions. Packed him off to go xc, only for him to reappear mins later to say everything had been abandoned. We'd only been there for two and a half hours, spent £90 on diesel, and then drove all the way back in the driving rain. Hurrumph!
It must have been miserable day for all involved and everyone was trying to look on the brightside. But could they not have made a decision re conditions sooner, given what was forecast and how soft the ground was on the west coast?
