Was going across to BE Culzean today with OH and his horse as my horse had to withdraw due to concussion in leg due to hard ground (ha, ha!). Well, it was lashing it down this morning so I phoned early to double check things were still on as forecast was awful. Didn't want to drive for three and a half hours to find out it wasn't on.
So, told it was absolutely fine and running to schedule, and set off.

Half way there I phoned again as the weather was getting worse. Couldn't see a thing and the rain was heavier than ever. Nope, still running, so off we set again. OH really wanted a run as the last 4 BEs he's entered have been cancelled!

Arrived and we could hardly move for the sea of mud that greeted us. The dressage arenas resembled ploughed fields. My OH looked like he was mid xc whilst doing his test, and I was impressed he survived the experience, given he only dabbles in the odd competition.

I swithered about him doing sj, but off he went and did a good round, despite conditions. Packed him off to go xc, only for him to reappear mins later to say everything had been abandoned. We'd only been there for two and a half hours, spent £90 on diesel, and then drove all the way back in the driving rain. Hurrumph!

It must have been miserable day for all involved and everyone was trying to look on the brightside. But could they not have made a decision re conditions sooner, given what was forecast and how soft the ground was on the west coast?

Hey mrs, we were there too, I felt soooo sorry for all the ground staff today, I couldn't believe it when I called and they said it was defo on. We arrived and both my friends had their dressge and sj fairly early on so the ground wasn't at its worst bad. The heavens opened even more than they had already as we set off xc, two after my two friends ran they pulled some of the jumps from the course because the landings were so waterlogged they were knee deep and by the time we were back at the trailer it had been abandoned! How frustrating for all involved.

Scottish weather at its best! Meanwhile back at home the riding club xc training day ploughed on and had a great time!

What's happening with the wee fella then?

Hope you're good,

we were there too...i did dressage, which was a total joke, and got clear round the sj, and was then standing at the start box for the xc when they decided to adandon....mixed rumours about whether or not they are going to refund...but i would highly doubt it, but to make things worse...i'm furious to discover that they placed those who had completed XC....!! only about 1/3rd of those entered even got as far as the xc before it was adandoned, yet they placed those who had completed...how can the people that received the first prize rosettes feel any kind of accomplishment that they were first out of about 10...very unfair to place some who were just lucky to be the first to go xc, when the remaining 2/3rd of competitors weren't allowed to complete???
