I work for an equestrian centre, and last week we held our annual hunter trial. we get around 500 - 800 starters and it has been runing for around 30 years now.

The course is looking a tad tired and a bit samey. needs a boost of investment really. If we were to invet money into new improved fences (we already have the international water complex / bank etc, so its more the bog standard fences that need sorting) id like to make sure they are uo to BE standards should that ever be a road we want to go down.

Ive looked on the BE website for height and class classification but cant see much. schedules have many different letters after the height and i wanted to know what this meant.

i think we would run BE80, BE90, BE100 possible novice.

what does the training element for the BE80 entail - cost wise, do the trainers give up their time? do they charge a nominal fee or is this expensive?
what does RF and any other letter following the height mean?
what height is novice?

Any other advice on course building, chosing classes running a BE event etc would be welcome.
Thanks

I'm sure party line would be to consult one of the BE accredited course builders, however IIR there is plenty of information about course building courses (if that makes sense) plus I'm absolutely certain that in the rule book there are height, width and profile details.

The letters after the numbers such as U18, JRN, U21, RF refer to the type of class - in these cases Under 18, Junior Regional Novice, Under 21, Regional Final.
Possibly the BE Forum might be a better place for this.

Also do have a good look at what other BE events run in your area to see if there could be a space in the calendar.

Regardless of whether you actually end up running it as a BE event, if you did bring it back up to scratch and how you want it to be, you would certainly make money back on it as a schooling venue. Littleton Manor in Reigate is near us and we use their facilities a LOT! and they always have people in schooling.

I'd contact BE direct and ask to speak to someone there about the possibility of your venue being reinstated in the Calendar. BE has lost so many venues over the years and new/revived ones are, I believe, always welcome. Whereabouts are you, what's the name of the Equestrian Centre, or would you rather not say yet?

It's in Lincolshire - Caistor Equestrian Centre.

The owner invested about 2million two years ago and built a brand new centre. The main campus has two cross country courses which we use for our ODE events every Monday bank hol, but the Hunter Trial course is used annualy and is up at our second DIY yard. Although this is up for hire at any point we only use it for the Hunter Trial. Although I would want to keep it this way, as it makes it special, it would do with using a bit more to earn its upkeep. We are talking to Piggy French, Gary Parsonage and Mary King regarding regular XC clinics (we already have Joe Whitaker and Jayne Bartle-Wilson for monthly clinics, so would be great to add an eventer to our list) , however to run it as an affiliated course would be great.

Ive just started in this job - events, and Im looking at the calendar for next year. We wont go affiliated next year but to aim to get it sorted for 2014 would be good :)
