Curious to know this as I am planning my season and trying to work out when and where to allocate my monthly stickers.
If you and horse are full members have you ever been balloted and under what circumstances?...

I'm hoping it's pretty rare but was also wondering if it is more common on wkend rather than wkday events, thoughts please....

choc frijj (this addiction is really taking over!) and malt loaf for all fellow ballotees

Yep! BUT I think only the once... no actually twice (had to check BDWP!!

) and when I had entered just over the ballot date and I think it is just they hadn't got round to closing the entries

Another time was just because they were over subscribed!! I had used a ballot sticker then too

But it was at the beginning of the season and a very popular event.

only once- Richmond ironically it was because i had stated that i would do the PN on the Friday - from what i understood that was the day most pro's took their youngsters and organisers probably expected less in a weekday class than the weekend

Aye, one season was balloted a lot, esp entering the PAVO 5 year PN classes which was bloody annoying.

Because I stewarded a lot I got into most places, but there was one season, think it was 2002 or 2003 I got balloted loads, and again in 2007.

Never!

And thats real combination of week/ weekend events prob similar ones to you Chloe, around Wilts locality.
Ta for malt loaf....

I'm trying to work out what to use my March sticker on, I want to kick off with Moreton then Swalcliffe Park

I'm thinking Moreton may be popular as it's so early on
Swalcliffe Park might be popular coz it's new (or does that mean the opposite?)

I rarely do more than 1 BE event a month so pretty much always use a sticker and never been balloted with a sticker. However, there is very little balloting at Novice & above in Scotland (if any) but I use my stickers anyway!!

Once, in a mid -season intro in 2008.

Last year I wasn't balloted at all, although saying that there did seem to be a lot of events still accepting entries well after the ballot date including events that in previous years had balloted. It will be interesting to see what happens this year particularly with the entry/start fee increase.

Moreton might be popular aspeople know all weather arena plus grounds holds up ok. However, it's over 2 days isn't it? so probably room for all - plus, asking around, a lot of people seem in no rush to get started this year having lost so much time with the weather. People do seem to be cautious about new events too, unless a lot is known about it in advance. So basically I'm guessing neither will ballot but if it were me I'd put sticker on whichever was only being held on one day, and failing that (if S on two too) on Moreton

I have been balloted many times over the years, btw, but less freqiuently now I'm on an Organising Committee. Assuming you are a helper, do remember to put this on the form - balloting is completely un-random

I must be really lucky- I've never even been balloted using a ticket and been to some very popular events!

I do volunteer at one or two a year though so that definitely helps.

Never *touches everything wooden and crosses all extremities frantically*

I have one run a month usually that I really want the ponies to go to - for ex. Chatsworth, Aston Le Walls, SOE, Lt Downham. If it's a run I really want them to get, I make sure I use the sticker, esp if it's to get another QR.

i almost got balloted twice using my sticker.. got put in the day before sections at both events (Highclere and Larkhill) as i was a 'local' rider even tho i had not ticked the day before option..
it wasn't too much of a problem with Highclere (as it's a Sunday for PN) so i said i would stay in that section so i could run but when i asked why this was done for Larkhill and could i be moved, i was told due to high entries i would be balloted if i didn't do day before (even with my sticker!!) so i went away, bribed the boss to let me have another day at short notice and he said yes, then was emailed back to say a space had come up in an same day section and i would be moved.. strange!!

other than that i haven't ever been balloted using my sticker as i try to use stickers at the events i really want to go to, plus i rarely did more than one event a month.

My brother was balloted from Hexham Intro last season with a sticker although I entered the same class with 2 horses. Ironically he got a place and then 2 hours later I withdrew one anyway although we were going to turn up with an extra pony on the day, on the off chance there was a slot, if needs be!

No i havent. I have only done intros up till now but i compete mainly in the south west where there seems to be less balloting and i pick and choose what i put stickers on.
It also helps if you volunteer (in my case i volunteer my mother for dressage writing cos she loves it

) or if you are friends with the organisers

Yes. But only when we didn't use a sticker.
After lots of help from friends, we have carefully planned this season, and when to use stickers. Some events simply don't need them.
Seems it is the case that experience counts.

Only once and it was with a sticker

Also got moved to day before dressage (on a Friday!) which i couldn't do and so had to withdraw which is the same thing i suppose

I am also debating where to use my March sticker.....Munstead or Tweseldown?!

I have been balloted with at least one of my horses from Oasby at the beginning of the season (even with a sticker) for the past 4 seasons!!!!!!!! As well as Bradwall and Eland lodge last year.

Yes, at Intros. I have never been balloted at Nov or above but always plan well and am not afraid to use my superballots - Chatsworth etc!! After all, even if it's a routine entry and it's your only one for that month pop your ballot sticker on. It doesn't work sitting in the drawer at home!

I think everyone I know has been balloted from Bradwall one year or another! I've been balloted quite a few times, once with a sticker and the rest on day tickets. I've also had to do day before dressage a couple of times to avoid being balloted.
