I can't find a page on the BE website that tells you the "requirements" needed to enter a horse for the 4 & 5 YO classes.
I want to do them next season but don't know what the date is for their age (eg. 5 on 1st Jan) and if they need to have certain breeding/experience/qualifications etcccc

Anyone help me please?

The age is from 1st Jan.
4 year olds can compete in a combination of young horse classes and BE 80s up to 4 times from 1st of May.
5 year olds can compete in any standard ODE, except pony trials and ONu18s

There will be no requirements regarding breeding, or other qualifications as long as the rider is also eligible for the classes you want to do.

I have just realised I have taken this from the 2011 rule book, the 5 year olds will be as above but they may have changed rules regarding 4 year olds, I will look at my 2012 later and post if it has changed or maybe someone else will let you know.

It is still up to 4 times for a 4 year old, look under membership then go to horse season tickets which will give you more info about registration.

the byeh classes are completely seperate to 'BE events' so you can do as many or as few of these as you like. I didnt do BE with mine as a 4/5yo as I hadnt done ANY cross country schooling with her til the end of her 5yo year but the BYEH classes I found were a good thing to try and aim your training for. I did 2 with mine in the spring early/early summer with mine as a 5yo and then went onto do low level BS and a bit of cross country schooling.

I think they were useful as a gauge of what sort of horse you have but after doing the 5yo's I dropped my mare back down to 90 level to sort of consolidate everything we had done and not have so much 'pressure' put on her. As a 6yo she continued BS and BE90 and this year as a 7yo we have eventually moved to BE100 (although at a much slower pace than I would have liked due to all the cancellations) and by mid summer next year I will expect we will then be contesting novice classes.

ps - byeh or the age classes have no pre-requisites on breeding. My mare is a chunky piebald ISH and certainly held her own in amongst the sea of bay tb's that were there so expect a real mix of horses there :)

You need recorded breeding for the BE young horse final, though last time I did it you could enter the qualifiers without.

You don't need any breeding at all for the BYEH.
