Alfie and I had a xc lesson with Les Smith last night - bit of last minute cramming for Oatridge tomorrow!

Alfie's been on top form recently so I was looking forward to it, and he didn't disappoint. He was jumping his socks off! We even jumped the big traekner that I've never dared jump on any of my horses!

So, just about finished for the evening and having one last pop out of the water and over the skinny and then CRACK! My pinkie snapped when Alfie wobbled coming up to the skinny. I had to stop there and then (after I'd jumped the fence!) as my finger was at a rather alarming degree to the rest of my hand.

Fortunately Mr NJ with me so got Alfie sorted for me while I quietly contemplated whilst trying not to look at finger as it was making me feel queasy!

Anyway, with the nearest A&E being over an hour away. Mr NJ examines finger, slaps a bag of frozen peas on it and tells me to see what it's like in the morning as it's getting late. I had some lateral movement so consensus was, it's not broken, just staved.

However, I'm now demanding a trip to get it seen to as I'm in agony and finger still sticking out at odd angle.

A full Scottish breakfast to those of you who have made it this far, and a few pics to cheer me up :)

Oh no poor you, ouch!! Im thinking i might not be going either, i got kicked in the stomach on wednesday night and in soo much pain still. I like you couldnt face an hours trip to a & e so have been suffering at home!! Take lots of painkillers and take it easy today might feel better as the days goes on. Bloody horses!! :(

If it's a little finger, unless the break is very bad all they'll be able to do is strap it tightly to your other ones and give you super strength painkillers... I'd probably double up on ibuprofen and paracetamol and get someone to strap it tightly for you and see how that feels.

Alfie looks brilliant- so pingy, and very clean!

Agree with the icing and the strapping.

Id strap it today (ie even when not riding).

Only prob for tomorrow is you might need to tape them once you've got your gloves. Can you get your gloves on? If its swollen enough that gloves dont fit maybe you shouldnt ride, if gloves your gloves go on I'd say battle on through!

Lovely pic of you jumping out of water btw, who was your photographer?

My son broke his finger where it joins the knuckle. It did need a doctor to put it back into place - after lots of local anesthetic. It was then strapped to the next finger.

I would recommend that you do go to A&E to get it looked at - if it does need putting back in place it's better to do it as soon as possible.

My son's finger is fine now.

I hope it feels better soon.

Oh you poor thing! I'd suggest getting it looked at sooner rather than later!

Hope you can sort it so that you can still compete!

Awful timing - you looked as though were having such a good time...

I would get your finger checked out, as I did a similar thing and a week later my finger had gone rather grey...

Visit to A&E and I was booked in for a plating and pinning extravaganza. Didn't realise that I had broken it in several places. Plaster for 3 months with that one.

I might add - I did get it checked at the local A&E the night I did it - but I think it must have been the cleaner that was reading the x-rays that night...

Just back from having it strapped up. Much ooh-ing and aah-ing over my magnificent bruising!

Have also withdrawn from Oatridge - and as luck would have it, there was one person left on waitlist so get ££ back :)
