I'm hoping to spend this season doing intermediate pony club ODE's (usually they are about 3"3ft xcountry and 3"6ft sj), and hopefully join BE for the Autumn events. we have been told dressage is absalutely outstanding at BE events, even at intro. however hopefully we should improve throughout the summer with alot of dressage lessons booked- she has the potential, i just dont know the right buttons to press with her yet!

anyway, so i know BE is very expensive- you have to pay membership, then alot for every event too. however, what are the other differences from BE to pony club? apart from the fact that its a higher standard and you cant win points in PC! is there any different clothing you need or anything along those lines? it all seems abit confusing, especially with the balloting thing- are newer members less likely to get in?

any info much appreciated

You will have to buy your own number bib but thats the only different for clothes. Normally BE are better run with better courses but often a PC event is run over a BE course and very efficent. And with BE your record is recorded with PC the results often end up in the bin.

I don't know anything about balloting as it rarely happens in Scotland.

we have been given a card from my pony clubs DC which we have to take to our events with PC and get signed by the organiser if i go clear xcountry over 2"9ft, it all seems so confusing!
what about jabs etc, i think i have read somewhere that your horse has to have had certain jabs before we can compete... and then i have to be assessed too before i can join (forgot what you call it). agh so confusing lol!

I can't quite remember but your horse has to have had 2 of the starter jabs beforing being aloowed to run. BE also check the record carefully to see if you have any gaps in the injection history.

See when I was your age I didn't have to be assesed ( I feel old now) however I feel often riders your age are much better than many of the adults riding.

I have never been a memeber. I have always ridden on a day ticket and I did Pony Club Classes when they were running. I might be worth it but I think you will be fine and really enjoying so do you really want to spend another £30?

I did 3 events on a ticket first before deciding to register. It is a good idea to at least do 1 to see if you like it. You'll get a rule book with a day ticket so make sure you read it and know what's required as it is a bit different to pony club.

Dont you have to be a certain age before even getting assessed? If you get assessed, do not then have to register? With younger members I think its a bit different, I dont really know. Jab-wise, basically you should be fine as I believe its the same as for pony club - they need to be up to date with their flu jabs (I think tetanus is optional but obviously most people have it as well in 1 booster).

Have a go at an intro - it's not very big at all, and Ive very rarely seen the SJ up to height. Ive seen more unaffiliated intermediates which are much bigger than intro.

I would definitely try a day ticket first, it is so expensive to register you may as well give it a few test-runs first.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think you can use 4 day tickets in one season ?

How old are you? If you're under a certain age you do need to be accredited by a trainer or your PC etc.. don't have my rule book on me to check but can have a look later. When I started eventing it was all a lot less complicated! lol

the accreditation system has totally changed - when i started BE two years ago i had to be accredited on every horse i rode by an accredited trainer. Now you have to complete two intros with less than 12 SJ faults and then clear XC before you can move up to PN. Then i think you have to complete 4 PN before going Novice with a certain amount of SJ faults etc. Some PC events will count as qualification for PN which is where the new PC card comes in.

I did my first 3 BE events on a ticket because they were at the end of the season but otherwise we would have registered because you are more likely to get balloted on a ticket and whether you are registered or on a ticket your results still go up for everyone to see.

Yes you do

I think the only thing you're not eligible for is points (Novice level and above) and as already stated you will be the first to get balloted.
