My horse was 2nd in the PN at Tweseldown yesterday. The prize we received was a £10 voucher for one of the trade stands. However, the voucher was valid only at the event (which we were obviously leaving that day) and the stall was shut by the time the prize giving was held! Good thing we're not in this game for the money!!!

Oh dear!!

I think the lady who owned the stall who sponsored the PN sections comes on here she might be able to let you use it now, worth a try!

Well done on the 2nd though!

You made me laugh out loud in the office and I got weird looks

Makes you wonder why you do it! At our hunt show last year I took home £15.00 and a £10.00 voucher for the local tack shop and I spent £4.00 on entering the one class!

Congrats on the 2nd placing though!

well done on 2nd but I agree with MDM, when you win a voucher you want to at least be able to use it. And for it to be used only at the show is just ridiculous

Thank you all - I will look into it and whinge. However, I've already made myself unpopular as I had a rider substition (so sadly can't take any credit for the 2nd except for her brilliant training of course!!!) and despite doing this a week ago and demanding a tenner from me, they didn't manage to consistenly swap the names over, so I whinged that a tenner was a bit steep for that too!!!

It is in the rule book, but I questionned it on the grounds that I told them days ago so what was there to do (it is a penalty clause - boring lawyer that I am). They very snottily told me that there was a lot of work involved, but in fact, as I say they hadn't even got it right. However, she was clutching hold of the numbers and wouldn't hand them over until she had the cash, so I was stuffed really!!!

Thats bad luck. I have to admit to being very lucky with the prizes i have won at Intro. I won a bridle, a combo fly rug, an easter egg and when i was second in the West Country challenge i won a mattes numnah and a horseware fleece rug, so as you can imagine i have been really impressed. I think it depends on the event you go to but they should at least let you spend the voucher over the next 6 months or so!

Ive never had anything decent at BE! Ive very rarely got prizes even if in the top 6 though.... The only prizes I can think of has been a lead rope, a bag of horse treats and a bag of Greengold Alfalfa (which we then had to lug back in the pissing rain miles to our trailer!!). Prizes are usually shite at the events Ive been to. Unless you win, you never get much, if anything which I think is taking the piss since it costs so damn much to enter!!

Yes I did - she was good but XC is def not her thing! She is just far too careful bless her!

well for for 2nd!

i totally agree with you & everyone else!
the prizes aren't worth anything much unless you come first!

i've been 6th before & just got a rossette - the best prize i've had is a lead rope & that was for coming 9th!!

although i noticed broadway usually have quite good quality prizes

I won a pre novice at Bath and West and was given a lovely leather headcollar, only problem was it was cob size and my horse needs a full size!!!!

In fairness, I've had some decent prizes (on the rare occasions I've won any). Mattingley give nice crystal and a photo, Broadway I got a lovely hamper (for 2nd), but at Goring I had my first ever win and they gave all the prizes away eg bags of carrots etc, and basically looked around for something to give me and settled on a baseball cap- the organiser gave me a box of chocolates afterwards because she felt bad!!

However, I'd rather get placed and win a ropey prize than not get placed at all!!

On the otherhand though, when I did a lot of dressage I generally always covered my entry fee in prize money, and did so in my first and only BSJA foray this year. So, BD and BSJA is more cost effective, but in my opinion not so much fun!!

What a shame, the prizes round here are actually very good at some events. (not mega money of course but better than your tenner)
CCj won a voucher for £45 for coming 5th in PN, so the winner must have got £100 at least. The saddler Wychanger Barton has of course now got us as customers at every event if we need anything as we like to show our appreciation.
I do agree about actual prize money re competing costs, our stallion won £100 in five events, but I worked out it cost me almost £500 to do them....
I reckon you have to be rich or seriously poor afterwards to event!

I've been trying to reply to this since yesterday , but kept getting the ' Temporarily Unavailable' notice .

Well done on your 2nd placing , but considering the amount it costs to enter , plus fuel for lorry & horse (!) , I do think it's time that some BE events realised that the prizes have got to be better .
Not saying any more - I fence judge at a local event - but I've no idea what the PN prizes are !

Thank you, I will PM her - although I no doubt look horrible and ungrateful now (which I'm not, it was just quite funny it was shut!!) so she'll probably tell me to get lost!!

Well done on your IN result - look huge and terrifying to me!

I'm sure she won't, she seems very nice.

I'm never too bothered about a prize but I think prize money should reflect the cost of eventing, which, lets face it, isn't exactly cheap!

A £10 voucher for coming second

At BSJA you have to at least get your entry fee back for ANY placing...second place would usually pay at least twice the entry fee.

BE take the pee....

Sounds better than fencing - you're lucky to get a T-Shirt - have whole drawers of the things, in some of the least pleasant colour combinations possible... Can't even fob them off on my OH as he refuses to wear something that says "Finalist" at a sport he's never done (nothing to do with the fact that the ones I try to give him are in tasteful colours like mud brown with turquoise design or navy and bright orange)...

I tend to do rubbish at competitions which have decent prizes, but have a large collection of random vases - I don't even like flowers - and the men get glasses which are at least useful for putting alcohol in - from the ones that give you stuff I don't like. Nationals you can get a decent amount of money, but I always lose to someone I should beat in the round before the money kicks in!
