Ive just found this on my facebook wall and thought i would share with you, its a pretty distressing video but apparantly the horse has made a full recovery.

BE WARNED - Distressing Video.
'This is one of the many side effect of Fluphenazine - which is used as a calming agent in horses. He was given 5 cc's when he should not have been given more than 2 cc's. This was an injection given by a vet. This video was taken after 5 days of these seizures - only being able to be controled by shots of valium every 8 hours. He has totally recovered from this - but if this video prevents 1 person from giving it to their horse - then it was worth posting for you to see.'

I saw that too. Poor thing! Glad he's ok though. However, almost reminds me of human behaviour. When I used to get cramps that were so bad I would pass out or throw up, I used to put my head between my arms like that and it'd help. How odd!

Still, glad he's alright and I'm glad they did put that video up!

that is sooo sad :( the owner has written underneath to say the horse has been left with permanent brain damage, I'm sorry but if my boy was being tormented like that the kindest thing I could do would be to PTS. Poor poor horse.

Thankyou for sharing and also it was very brave of the owner to put this video up. It must have been very distressing to watch your horse suffering like that, to me that horse was indeed suffering.
Just makes you think though of people as well and all the crap that doctors pump into the veins or mouths of mental health patients to help control them.
I wonder how many people suffer like that, silently locked away in wards that have locked doors!!!!

Horrible video.

Horses can have serious adverse and lethal reactions to many common drugs.
Penicillin for example, and although they are reportedly rare - I know many vets who have seen at least one in their career, and one top vet who removes himself from the stable for 5mins after giving some injections which are used everyday in practice.

Has the person who uploaded the video - answered the question 'why was this drug being used?' Too busy slating the vet, without giving the full details of the history here.

Or are we to believe the horse was given a extremely long acting powerful sedative - commonly used as a doping agent without informing the owner? Consent?

A quick search reveals the user seems to be a member on a barrell racing forum, where several members admit to using it, and call it a wonder drug.
