Although I'm an adult my 'horse' is only 135cm, according to be to register "142 cm without shoes (137cm without shoes for BE80 classes ONLY). FEI ponies are 142cm - 148cm without shoes (these are ponies competing under International rules)"

Without a very dodgy JMB height cert we won't scrape 137cm without shoes even!

We have no real plans to event but it would have been nice to have the option to do it!

It just seems a shame that she's excluded for being a short arse! I know that it's probably a safety thing for striding and you don't want to mess about with XC jumps but I could easily take her out and do unaffiliated 3ft classes (well, if we were fitter!) without killing ourselves.

It's not a huge issue, we have a tonne of work to do before we're competing properly but sad that we will never BE (it's good to have dreams! :D)

You're right it is about stridings, as far as I'm aware. Unaff 90cm xcs tend not to be as demanding or technical as BE courses, again, as far as I'm aware. However those run at BE venues are more challenging, so you may be right ;)

But unaffiliated you can get some dodgy courses! :D

It's a shame, not a huge issue for us really but it would have been fun to have a go (not sure where I am getting the money for all this of course as we don't even have wheels yet! :D)

You could easily get away with doing BE80, as no one will stand and measure her- i her height on her passport though?

In terms of the bigger courses, it's the exceptions who can make the striding safely who are ruled out. Whilst that's not fair in a way, you can't have a rule for some and not for others.

RC stuff has no limits, and you can do BS stuff on her too. And PC classes go up to 1.10m at most senior ODEs, and are usually open to non-members...

I found pc courses more technical than BE any way so wouldn't say your missing out on that much at that level. YP won't be affiliating until he is ready to move past 90 really as I can't justify the cost and would rather have 2 runs round the same or a more technical course unaff. The only thing your missing out on is a record but that can be a double edged sword.

I agree with this- 90cm in the PC is level 3, of 5 levels going up to 1.15m max. You're an established pair at this point technically, and are working towards the top. When you get to 1m (level 4), it hit the point where courses are often small Novices rather than BE100s.

BE90 is level 2 of 6, going up to 1.25m and beyond (I think), not including the CIC and CCI levels in there! So the courses tend to be sweeter or more forgiving as they're designed to encourage and educate.

my pony is 137cm on her height certificate and was told last year by be that she had to b 142. I only wanted to do 80 so I'm glad to hear that we can :-)
