I am wanting to take a couple of horses up to the beach tomorrow and Bude is my closest beach, I know I can take horses on Widemouth beach but it is seriously stony getting on to the beach. Is there anywhere further north - perhaps Crooklets or Northcott mouth where I can park up a trailer and ride on to the beach.

Thanks

Croyde is just a bit too far - takes another 35 mins and the roads are much more windy than to Bude. I know Puxborough and Saunton sands are fantastic but need to go to the closest as one of the horses is an iffy traveller.

I don't know the area very well, but have visited my brother many times at Bude. We usually take the dog for a walk on the beach while we are there, sometimes at Widemouth and sometimes to beaches north of Bude, but I can't say that I've ever thought they would be good for riding on. As you say, very stony to get on to, and then, even when the tide is out, you don't seem to get very far before you run into more rocks. Might be wrong but just thought I'd post anyway!
