We have decided to head down for a beach ride for a friends birthday early December and I would really appreciate advice from those who have done it before for any tips and tricks.

We know about checking tides, have checked permission and will be going during the week. What about parking? any height restrictions as YO may take her big lorry? thought I would actually put my XC boots as would not get waterlogged - or am I being an idiot for having a romantic idea of riding through the waves.?

Contingent will be 4 youngsters and 1 grown up horse. We have already decided we will not be riding on mass but will split off to avoid any hysterics. Also will not be jumping the breakers which are apparently there as have been warned that the sand can change quite quickly.

Any other tips? advice?

Excited but have absolutely NO idea how my youngster is going to react!

With the parking I would probably check with someone who knows or even the council as the beach I go to doesn't allow lorrys or trailers in the car park at any time (Luckly we checked before we went) so we have to park in a nearby road and hack down to the beach.

I hope you have a fab time when you go. Try to get photos and remember to post them on here ;) :p :D :D

Thanks for the heads up. We could all be in one very big lorry or split between 2 smaller and a trailer.. either way not a good idea to be unsure of where we can park.

There might be pictures, depends on whether my boy decides he is chilled about it or whether he throws his toys out. We are putting bets on which horse is going to create most atm! hence having at least 2 who won't give a monkeys and can baby sit if needed..

From memory from going there with my children (not with horses!), there is a large bank of very large stones you need to walk down to get to the stones. Can't remember if you can get to the beach any other way. Sorry can't help with the parking either.

You can't park in the public car parks at Wittering. The only option is you ring the yard that's near there and pay them to park there.

I went to Bracklesham bay (next beach up from Wittering but you can ride all the way back up to Wittering) its free to park for 2 hours in the car park right on the beach.

Here's the post/pics I did about about it...

Have fun and enjoy

I too would like to ride the beach for my birthday in December but probably Lancing Beach so any tips on parking there gratefully received too.

The last time I did a beach ride was for my birthday (weather a bit different then in December though!) and I swam with / on the horse which was amazing but........whilst cantering along the beach bareback she threw in 3 bucks each progressively worse and I came off (wet slippery bareback = not much choice!) & was in agony for 6-8 weeks & off work. Expensive birthday trip! They were going to call the air ambulance!!

Bearing that in mind, it has taken me oooh 4 years to brave one in this country BUT remember I was bareback & had swum so you will have all tack on (I hope?) & lots and lots of fun.

Pics please!

When I was sussing out going to Ferring Beach I emailed the council guy, think they were called the Beach Office. He was very helpful. Told me the best place to park and a few rules.

If you look on the council website they will have a Beach Office type person and email address.

@Tchamp - I know where we can park and I will give you directions!:D

You also need to do this at Ferring but it doesn't bother ours. Think the first time we led them down and got on further on the sand. But now we just ride down and they are fine.

Are you putting a post on here about the gymkhana on Sunday or am I?

You should share some of our pics from our hack together too :) I know you are bored haha....

We've parked at Bracklesham, bit stony getting onto the beach but our lot coped fine.

Parking ok any time of the year but perhaps not best at the weekend!

Enjoy, we had a lovely time and out friendly local equestrian photographer came too and took some amazing photos xx

Thank you all SO much! so, basically, more to it then we originally thought so will do some investigating.

One of our lot wanted to swim in the sea.. till she was reminded she will be on the greenest one of the lot and we would all like to come back in one piece. Her other horse, now out on loan for a quieter life, was Mr Ultra Reliable!

Contact Cakeham stables at West Wittering. Parking for your box and direct access to the beach. The lady's name is Tessa. Oh, and I think its £10.00 and your box is safe and secure.
