Hey everyone im.going the beach tomorrow with my tb .... im hoping i can stop as been practicing for 4 months amd hes brilloant. were.going southport....

any tips for stopping or having some fun hehe just need some reasurance....although im very excited....

hes ridden in a fullcheek snaffle and a martingale cor hackng and.jumping xxxxthanksxxxx

My first beach trip many years ago, we were so worried about not being able to stop when all the horses did was to spook at the drift wood, the change in colour with the dry and wet sand, I had visions of me going over his head if he stopped from a canter, which he's quite good at doing lol

My tip would be to go with someone sensible and only a max of 3, anymore and mine gets too excited, he's 33 now by the way and is still the same. Don't go with a huge gang of people who are just going to hooly around, I think that's all they will remenber and will not behave the next time you go, have a gallop etc by all means but sensibly

Enjoy yourself !

lol he will i suppose eventually stop lol!!

thanks for the tip im only going with my friend and my horse has a weird bond with hers like we went to kelsall and we followed them over a jump (my horse is very green) and he flat out gallop to cathc up to them not much i could do other than steer so sat it out and he stop about 5 yards after his horse friend!! ever since then he always stops when he gets to this other horse! amazing lol

so i could use them as an emergency brake if needs be i would just have to prepare for myself to be going super fast to get to stopping :)

any tips on anything else like what to wear .... i was thinking oh putting my fluffy saddle cover on (salt water and all) his fluffy girthy thing a fluffy nose thingy (heard it helps keep them concentrate on whats infront of them?) also all round boots tendon on fron brushing on the back :) hes also wearing a martingale

ill be wearing warm clothes!!!!

i do have a flash strap somewhere but i dont think ill use it as he hasnt needed it before....

he will also be having a calmer (magic ones) before loading (hes a bad loader and hes even worse when unloading :))

thanks

I'm not sure I'd use brushing or tendon boots, sand getting under them could make your horse sore. Think about what it is like wearing shoes on the beach!

I usually put well fitting bruching boots on...I like to be sure they have support for all the galloping! :-)

Be careful at Southport - the beach is lovelyfor riding, but it has several deep and muddy spots, which seem to change all the time...I usually walk the length of the beach first to get a feel and then try and follow my own hoofprints back! It could potentially be quite damaging to tendons if you are galloping/cantering along and then suddenly hit a deep/muddy bit!

In my opinion, Blackpool beach is better for riding as the sand is consistent. I do like Southport though and have been many many time!

Have fun! I'm sure your boy will love it :-)
