My beloved Beans pony has been colicing this evening. She's seen the vet twice @ 7.30pm, & 10.30pm, and the vet left her last about midnight. Both times heart rate is ok, tummy moving, (but LOTS of fluid there), and rectal exams felt droppings there, and that they were soft. On the latest visit my vet removed plenty of the droppings and they were all the same size and texture of a normal poo of Be's. However, she isn't passing droppings on her own,
and hasn't done since about 4pm ish. She was farting every single breath earlier when I phoned the vet the first time, and was very, very gassy. Not so much when I checked back later, but due to the lack of droppings I was worried and asked the vet to come again. She has been tubed and passed quite a bit of gas during/since, but still no poo.
This is from a horse whom we joke is like mucking out a dinosaur she does so much of it!
I've just come home for a big cup of tea, to grab some warmer clothes, and a sleeping bag, and then I'm heading back out to keep an eye on her through the night. Please send my lovely girl lots of 'get well' vibes. The poor girl was supposed to be going out tomorrow after several weeks of box rest
My vet said they've been having a ridiculous spate of colics this week, but even then it seems odd as Be hasn't even been out at grass for nearly 2 months, and is on the same hay and straw batch that she's been on for weeks...
