Hello,
It is no secret that Hovis is one of my idols, so in tribute to my hero, I've had a go at a competition report a la Hovis.
Following my slipped disk last spring and losing my confidence a bit (well, it hurt every time I jumped, would you want to carry on leaping over things when it hurts?) and the regrettable result that I have dropped mum a few times causing her to 'loose her bottle' - what bottle? What was in it? Where did she last see it? - I have been declared fit to start jumping again.
We spent a nice few trips out to local places jumping 65 and 75 cm classes to build our confidence back up, last weekend we went to the big place with the 3 indoor places and I jumped lots of pretty coloured fences. I got ribbons for my little class but Mum messed me about in the fast round of my bigger class, and I was cold so I jumped clear but a bit slow to get a ribbon.
Anyway Mum was pleased and has been embarrassing me calling me her angel and kissing me in front of the boys all week (I am 11 for goodness sake, I'm hardly a foal to be kissed in public by mum!) so this week we went back to the big indoor place for 'indoor xc'.
Now I know what XC is. I get to go really fast and jump big solid jumps which Shoe is frightened of and Mum sits on me clinging on and panting like a plump puppy on heat and occassionally tweaks a rein to let me know which one is next.
INDOOR XC??? How am I going to get up speed and fly over things inside?? XC is all about going fast ACROSS COUNTRY surely? Anyway, there was a lot of jumps in the indoor place, and trees, trees, inside?? How?? Mum let me do the 75cm instead of the 65 so I must have been looking after her ok, maybe she found that bottle again? I really enjoyed myself, although I don't understand why I was jumping hay not eating it?
I did spook at one jump and I am ashamed to say I nipped round it as the one to the left looked much more inviting. When she had finished nearly falling off me, in a rare authoritarian moment my mother made me come back round and actually rode me instead of sitting steering like a geriatric chauffer, so I had to jump the ugly jump. Still, she seemed happy with my 4 faults and has told me I don't have to do the little class anymore, I can do the 75 and 85cm classes for a bit. Hopefully she'll let me do 85 and 95 by the end of the winter.
Anyway I got a whole packet of polos and lots more embarrasing kisses, then a big haynet and tea and an early night, which to be honest I was ready for.
Over and out
