I've forgotten what size girth Ned is and I've found a gorgeous girth on ebay which ends shortly. What size would you say he is? He's 15.1 and a good weight.

Impossible to say, imo. It depends also on the cut/strap length of saddle amongth other things

eg Dafthoss has a connie, same height as Fergs, slightly finer in build and slightly better condition score, but his girth is several inches longer than F's (or rather, we have the same length but I recently had to buy a shorter one as mine was too long and hers still fits - I think!).

I'd guess about 46'' but agree it sort of depends on your saddle and girth straps. You could always re-list it if it's the wrong size?

Seriously?

Fergs is in a 38" which is longish (4th hole either side) and J is in a 40" top hole either side

J is a mid-heavyweight cob

I'd imagine 54 will be too long. I have a 44" hanging on my bedroom wall (it's a v nice girth) because it's far too long for any of mine!

Your ponies are half starved ;) teeny TB wears a 44". Now send that Ferg over to his Aunty Suzi for some feeding up :D

ps - this is a joke just in case anyone is worried i am advocating overfeeding ;)

Jesus... I don't understand how your TB can need 8 more inches than my highland

I don't have long girth straps on my saddle I guess? But that isn't a particularly unusual size for a horse to be. Infact it's on the small size for a horse, because my horses are little short bums!

You call this skinny

(sorry for the thread hijack, v. rude... better than abuse though? :p)

JT - Ferg's is a VSD so I suppose it might be longer strapped than a GP-type?

No he isn't skinny but he is wee. If you took his body and stretched it to BH length he would be. So although my horses aren't fatter or thinner than yours they are bigger all over, including round the girth, or else they wouldn't be in proportion at all!

ETS: I think your ponies are very good examples of how cobs and natives do NOT need to be fat. Slinky's cob is also a lean machine. Just proves it can be done!

Haha, yus, this hijack is fine ;) Interesting infact! Your boy looks very good in red :O You should go stupidly matchy matchy as well...

This is going to be an epic digression, so again, apologies, but...

Actually, that is an artefact of the camera - he's actually wearing a bright orange headcollar with a black (and purple) bridle and red reins. Reason being, the headcollar is just standard hacking gear - and is orange as it adds to his hi vis:

The purple bridle goes with J's purple matchy matchy, which you will be relieved to know I can't find a photo of, but I can guarentee is quite extensive... I now normally only use that bridle for lunging, hence it doesn't normally have reins.

The red reins go with Fergs zilco bridle, they're the easiest to clip on / off, so when I decided to use the lunging bridle to hack, they were the natural choice to use :D He does matchy matchy in red rather well, too :o (can't find a photo with the bridle and the rest, but...)

and probably more I can't find photos of

What I mean is... DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, EVER ENCOURAGE ME TO BUY MORE MATCHY MATCHY. I do not need ANY encouragement  :D

JT I thought BH was only 15,2 - so only 4 inches bigger than Fergs?

Oh yea, that would account for it... I'm a muppet :o

Outrageous   You shouldn't be allowed highlands if that's what you do to them! :(

He loves it! He believes in the Union! He's a good, patriotic, Team GB pony :D

Btw, annielusian - you should see my watch list on ebay - it's a danger zone of matchy matchy

I'm loving all those colours! Monochrome colours can get away with anything! Poor old Neddy is stuck is red/black and white/black! He might suit yellow, but I doubt anything else!

ETA: Haha, so is mine! Red and black eveerrryyything!

Yes, Fergs is a bit of a blank canvas. the only colour that doesn't really work is white, which is a shame for dressage really.

How about lime green? I've seen that work well on bays...

I'm working on bright orange matchy matchy (non-hi vis for schooling) next :D

The orange hi-viz hurt my eyes! :( My retinas may die.

:D Provided it stops any idiots driving into my horse, I don't care  :D

Btw, JT - thanks for that about my lads condition etc :o I was looking at photos of F as a 3/4 year old and thinking  christ was he fat :(
