Hi,

I am currrently unemployed and practically homeless in San Diego. I have been doing a great deal of thinking about what I want to do for a career-vocation and I am very interested in learning more about working in a stable.

What is the best first step for becoming a Stable Hand?

Ideally I would like to find a stable that would let me volunteer at first so that I can gain experience.

I love animals so I am excited about pursuing this.

thanks,
Yishai

Hi Yishai, a lot of stables will let you come and do work experience, so I suggest finding out where your local places are and giving them a call. Charities are also a good idea if you have any locally. Hopefully after that you can find some paid work for a few hours and eventually get a full time job. Horse jobs often provide accommodation so that may be good for you!

I suggest getting a book about basic horse care, I am sure people will suggest some but as this is an English forum you may be dealing with more western stable yards/barns? I expect you will have both around your area.

Good luck finding some work and hope it goes well!
