I have a 16.2 cob who I very very wet. Straw is the most economical option but due to mites I need an alternative.

I have tried:
sawdust base with shavings over the top to deep bed but he was too wet

Rubber mats with small amount of shavings he is too dirty and wet

Mixed shavings too wet

Shavings deep bed too wet and bed too high

Anyone have any options?

Thanks

Have you tried something like Megazorb? I found it quite good for my wet mare, although it goes solid if you leave it too long (I had it under shavings). Mare is not so wet now she is on Prascend.

I have been reading up on this and was considering putting the shavings over the top. How many bags did you put down and use a week? How big is your mare?

Thanks

Mare is 16hh Draft horse, weighs at least 750kg, more than 12" bone. I used 7 bags of Megazorb to make the bed, with shavings on top. I topped up the base with one or two bags, each week, depending on how wet the base was.
