Hi guys

At the moment I am looking into other types and makes of bedding as I am totally fed up with the stench from having my messy mare on straw.

I am looking for something that is very absorbent as my mare wee’s a lot.

Below is a list of makes of beddings, if you can think of any more then please let me know.

Easibed – wood fibres
Aquamax – pine wood fibres
Bliss – chopped rape straw
Aubiose - hemp
Hemcore – hemp (looks like flax)
Rapport – chopped rape straw
EcoBed - cardboard
Bedmax – large shavings flakes
Woody Pet – wood fibre into pellets
Equisorb - flax
Hippofan Flax
CushionBed – dried wood fibre
Mendip Shavings
ComfyBed – like flax
Miscanthus – chopped elephant grass
Megasorb – wood pulp

Thanks

Also in SY

I use Hemcore as the main bed and then put down a bag of megazorb where he pees, it all gets mixed in together, and he is a very wet horse and on 24/7 box rest - this is the only thing that keeps his bed dry.

bedmax is not absorbant at all, regular shavings are far more absorbant. to be honest i have a filthy horse and find him far cleaner on normal shavings than on bedmax. also didnt find flax that good.

liverpool wood pellets!! I changed onto them 2 weeks ago due to filthy 3 yo & i'd never go back to shavings (or straw). The stables are dry & no longer smell plus they are cheaper than any other wood bedding I know of.

I found this worked very well for my husband's very wet horse. Now use Miscanthus which works well. Found Bedmax was not at all absorbant.

Flax (the one I used anyway) is very very slippy and a bale didn't seem to go far, so I'd avoid that.
Not used woody pet but currently on Corley Bio Wood pellets which I recommend, you need to keep the bed thick, but it's so cheap it doesn't really matter.

Aside from that Softchip is very good.
I also saw 'allbed' bedding at YHL which looked very good

Bedmax is terrible for my messy mare, it is also very heavy to dig out when wet.
It is however great for my other horse as she's very clean and only pees in one place.

I've used easibed and it got really really heavy with my very wet mare, on shavings she buries her poo's knightmare !!! and Magzorb didn't really do all that much.

Back on straw as it's cheap enough to give her a big bed and you don't cringe when throwing it all away ! I smell horrid tho

Bed-down!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Excel would be good for your mare as it's a blend of chopped straw and shavings. The shavings are super absorbant whilst the chopped straw aids with the drainage. If you leave the wet all week and then take it out on the weekend it's formed a compact, thin layer that you just take the clean stuff of the top, and scrape the bottom layer off

I get all my wet, and that days poo picking in one wheelbarrow
