I'm really worried about doing the right thing for my boy. he is on part livery and it didnt matter how much I asked, and said to put as many bags of shavings as as needed and i'd happily pay, his bed wasnt deep enough and often wet as he's quite a wet boy, he is on rubber matting as well but was still getting scabby capped hocks - he's big and sensitive. I changed to easibed as more absorbant but still wasnt being made deep enough . I asked to try him on semi deep litter as per instructions with easibed and now he is happy has a deep bed - no more capped hocks and his bed is always dry on top and doesnt smell but am being made to feel bad by YO as wet at base untill dug out twice weekly. Should I stick to my guns and persevere with it ?. I 'd rather he was done properly daily but it just wasnt working.

I used to semi deep litter with Easibed... skipped out daily and did a full muck out at the weekend- and it was marvellous! Stick with whatever suits your horse.

Having had a mare on full livery, had this problem too! If this is the only way to solve it,then I would stay with it,and stick by it! This is how I keep my cob on a semi litter system,on Bedmax, but I do use rubber mats too.....Might be an idea to buy some that slot into the middle only and at least he has some cushioning!
Good Luck!

We use Easibed mixed with Flax or AquaMax on a semi deep basis - poos out 2/3x a day and wet out at the weekend - as our boxes are 16x18 so better that there is a "base" it works brilliantly!

Don't feel bad, in fact with another couple of bales on eventually the base will remain dry - you have to build it up beyond that wet stage ad not give in to the urge to dig it out - it does consolidate and remain dry when deep enough. You end up witha very solid dry base, and you can pick off the loose wet stuff from the top without it soaking right through to the floor, it certainly won't need rubber matting under it though as you don't want to disturb it at all if possible
