Hey! So, I've been using wood pellet bedding for years now and absolutely love it- it's quick and easy, actually worked out pretty cost effective, and I didn't have to worry about mites for my hairy horse.

With the crazy increase in wood pellet prices this year, I've been looking for an alternative. Straw is an absolute no, and I'm really not enjoying shavings. I've heard mixed reviews about straw pellets but have always worried about the horse eating them, and am not sure if they are bad for mites.

Does anyone have any experience with these, or alternatives?

I have used straw pellets before and been fine on them (horse suffers with mites on normal straw) i think because they have gone through a process it kills the mites. We currently use Norton Fuels Wood Pellets though.
 
The pelleting process usually involves heat, which should kill live mites - but unsure about mite eggs, as some eggs are fairly heat-resistant, but likely the eggs would be damaged by it.
