Following on from my recent threads about a little nf x welsh pony i have taken on from our local sanctuary for my 10 yr old cousin.. well shes been with us a week and a half & has been absolutely brilliant.. her breathing at first was a bit wheezy due to her allergies & being out of work for 18 months but is getting better & better as she is worked more, we've also put her on naf respirator boost which is amazing!

Anyway, just wanted some suggestions on the best non-dusty bedding to use.. at the moment I'm using thirsty bed just because thats what she was on at the sanctuary & I'm a bit scared of changing things as her breathing is so good now & I dont want her to need ventapulmin which she was living on at the sanctuary.

I dont mind the thirsty bed but have been doing her bed the same as she had at the sanctuary which was rubber matting just with a light dusting of thirsty bed to soak up the wee.. but I feel awful that she has such a tiny 'uncomfy' bed when my boy is on a massive straw bed & mums mare has a big chip bed. The sanctuary said that its best to keep her like that because we can sweep the whole lot out everyday & do a new bed but I feel awful for her.. she is still laying down at night.
I would be happy to try a deeper bed with the thirsty bed - does anyone use it like that? I wouldnt want to deep litter her because of the stable smelling like ammonia with her breathing so would want the wet taken out everyday still.. any suggestions? Thanks

My old boy is on paper as his breathing is best on that, and I hate little beds that they can't lie on without having to lie on bare matting. It's nice to muck out, not too expensive, and makes a lovely bed.

Her breathing has been fine on thirtsy bed, didnt seem as good at first on hunters wood chips but then I'm not sure if that was the bedding or just the fact that she'd had a change of environment.. i supposse I could just see if I can do a deeper bed & see how long the bed lasts.. it's not an expensive bedding.. £5 per bag. how much is papaer/cardboard bedding & how long does it last.. the pony is only 13'3 so doesn't need a massive bed but would like it to be comfy for her..
