We've just switched our shavings boxes to aquamax and it's fab- saves so much time, works out cheaper for the messy ones and the horses seem to like it.

Ihad a mare that was the same every day the whole bed had to be thrown out due to it be just mashed poo and concrete floor i put 2to 3 bales of straw every day on. In the end i put my other mares stable into deep litter and once established I swoped there stables round. My concern was the concrete as she lied down a lot.

My gelding's bed is very wet but he's quite tidy with droppings. I use Equisorb, put in about 8 bales to start with, and for first few days it's quite fluffy and moves a bit, but soon settles and packs down. I remove the wet bedding when the wet comes to the surface, which at this time of year when he's in quite a bit is about every 3 or 4 days. I put in 1 fresh bale a week, which costs about £6.50. IMO it's the best bedding I've used.

is that on top of rubber mats? how much bedding do people put on top of mats? at the last yard i was at they just put banks up but no bedding in the middle, didnt work verywell as rugs got smelly and floor very wet, but if i carry on as i am now i might as well not have the mats at all as am putting in almost as much as if there were no mats down, what method do people find works with mats and messy horses?!

I'm watching this topic with interest as I have two horses, one of which churns the bed, and the other doesn't but she is very wet. I use easibed on rubber mats. Works quite well for the one who doesn't churn the bed up, but I just have to chuck out the centre bit of the bed every day for the other one

She uses about 3 bales a week, roll on summer.

For the messy one I'd just give him a bit to pee on so all you need do is sweep it out in the morning. With the other one I'd try flax. Much as I hated the idea of flax for my horses to start with I rather like it now because the girls aren't as messy as I thought they would be, with adequate top ups (I find 2 bales (one in every 3/4 days), mucking the liddle out every day and turning the banks over once a week I think it's fab!
