right i was on straw and hated it so moved onto woodpellets which have been pretty good BUT im finding it WAY to heavy to deal with soooo have come to the decision to go back onto shavings (was on them years ago)

where do u all get your shavings?

what price do u pay?

and do u use small or big flake? and which are better?

Leave the pellets down, put a bale of shavings on top and deep litter! So much cheaper and shavings last ages! I probably use a bale a month for each of mine and then a bag of pellets per month as well.
 
small flake shavings - paying £7 a bag but dont have to collect - take out poo and worst of wet every day then throw up bed and leave to dry once a week, love it and horse cant eat it (he is NOT happy about that!!)
 
Having tried numerous types of bedding, I love straw pellets and wouldnt use anything else for both ease and cost... I would probably reccomend try using it in a different way or trying straw pellets instead? Shavings are a pain to muck out unless you have a very clean horse and get expensive.
 
I used to have mine on straw, but he is so messy and wet :( his feet were always thrushy so I swapped to Eco Bed. I love it! Put in 5 bales to start with then add 2 a month. The're about £7 a bale. His feet are lovely and dry. Only downside on days like today they can blow about a bit!

im finding it VERY heavy as its so absorbant and my horses are so wet, i havent been very well so not the strongest at the moment and on bad days dread having to muck it out and finding it smells a lot i'm going through about 2/3 bags a week per horse. to keep the bed dry i have to muck the whole middle out every day/other day.... I feel like im going wrong somewhere?
