Right here is the thing.

I am moving to a new yard at the end of march. (excited!!) BUT there is a problem. I currently use paper bedding at £5 a bag and use 2/3 a week but they do not allow paper bedding at the new yard.
Changed to paper because he is quite messy and box walks in the stable (something i am hoping to remedy in the new yard) and i found that the paper sort of clumps together when wet meaning he cant spread the wet round his stable and turn it all into a brown gooey mess like with shavings.

Ive never really had any contact with other bedding apart from straw and shavings so can you lovely lot help me out and recommend something for me

Then will have to see if new yard allows it.

Thanks in advance

Put wood pellets into search, loads of info on recent threads :D
I use Five Star Professional & find them great.
Have a great delivery service too!

There are HUNDREDS of threads with this exact same content on the forum, I am sure a small search in the search tool at the top will bring up what you're looking for.

I have found that the deeper the bed is, the less mess it tends to create.

Also the stable being big enough for the horse to be able to poo and wee and not then have to sleep/lie down on it is important - my 17 hander is far far cleaner in a 16x12 than he ever was in a 12 x 12.

Also a quieter location for stable means a less messy stable than a 'buzzy' end of a yard.

I use wood pellets with a quarter aubiose mixed in. Super absorbant and doesnt move around.

I am finding that a base layer of something absorbent, such as flax or sawdust, with a deep layer of straw on top works well. Warm and drying for wet feet and legs and if the horse pees a lot, the straw keeps them off the wet layer underneath. Then you can muck out the straw layer quickly and leave the wet layer to air and dry throughout the day. Doesn't work if they are on it 24 hours a day though.

Ive just changed to 5 star bedding - the service/delivery is fantastic and although its only been down a couple of nights before we got this lovely dry weather mucking out is wayyyyyyy quicker and amount is miniscule.... My lad is the wettest filthyest box walker going - bedding porridge every morning but with 5 star it takes 5 mins to sort in the morning. well worth the investment - look them up on FB I got a trial pallet 15 bags for £75 bargain! incl delivery ( I also trialled LWP (wood & straw) prefer 5Star...... an d they work out cheaper!
