"other" - woodchippings of an unknown source! Slightly dustier than hunter or other branded types, but no where near as bad as straw, and only costs £2 a bag which lasts me all week
straw for my girlie without rubber matting, has it nice and thick and keeps her warm and cosy!
old pony was on shavings with his owners (i had him on loan) but i put on him on straw and he was fine, then had him on shavings at camp and again was really clean and fine, after camp put him on shavings at home and he was a nightmare so changed back to starw! it all depends on the pony, the stable and the drainage!
Aubiose and rubber matting. Super deep bed, probably don't need the mats at all.
Deep littered, poo picked daily, some wet removed weekly. 1 bale a week used
straw for both of mine.
red is filthy so wouldnt ever have him on aything else, and solo reacts to shavings.
both my boxes have cobbled floors so rubber matting is a no for me.
solo has the wet taken out every other day, red has it taken out everyday.
obvisuoly (sp) droppings are taken out everyday!!
How dumb am i - i voted that i use straw and i dont!! I use shavings at the moment - feed merchants own brand.
Over the years I have used
Straw - hated it!!
Paper - great until you get a really mucky wet horse!!
shavings - got on really well with them
Sundown (chopped straw) - great and cheap with a clean horse but dinky somehow managed to compact it into a bicuit effect every night!!
So now i am back on shavings again!!
Straw in the run in sheds.
Soil floors in the stables so just a scattering of straw or shavings on that......whatever I have at the time, they are barely used anyway.
At the moment straw, because my lovely neighbour has GIVEN me 10 round bales, which, at the rate I use the stuff will last me about 2 years
