Hi everyone,
Sorry it's a similar thread to TheBayHorse1210!
I'm stabling my horse for the first time and am not sure what to do about bedding him down. At the moment he is in big agricultural shed which is strawed down all over and deep in one corner which he's very happy with but now he has his own stable.
Straw would be a good option as we have a large store of it at home on the farm and therefore would not have to buy very much, if any. I have heard friends have problems that it would not absorbs all of the urine and is a bit of a pain to muck out as it can all get caught on the fork when mucking out.
Shavings are apparently expensive but I find them very easy to muck out and stay quite clean. We wouldn't mind spending more if they are a more suitable bedding.
I'd be quite interested in finding out about shredded paper. I wouldn't need to worry about the ink rubbing off on his coat as he is dark bay and I don't think it would be visible. It sounds quite appealing as its apparently very cheap!
Also I have no experience with cardboard or hemp so if anyone has, it'd be most helpful if you could share it.
The stable has a concrete floor if it makes any difference!
Thanks,
M
