Ok i know there has probably been hundereds and hundereds of posts about bedding.
I was wondering what everyone thinks is the best bedding Shavings or Straw? I am thinking of changing over to shavings because the straw we get isn't very absorbent atall.

i like straw,i dont think people realise just how many you need for starting a new bed.

(i start a bed with 7 to 10 and then use 1 to 2 bales a week)

Thanks Clipcloppop. I will google it now. I look forward to hearing how it goes.

Cahill, I use 3 big builders bags to make her bed initially then i put 1-2 a week after that. But it just doesnt seem to soak up Cherish's pee.

Another who has swopped to wood pellet bedding after reading about it here. I am very traditional (old fashioned!) and really love the woodpellet bedding it is also more absorbent and much cheaper than savings.

I changed from straw to shavings and found both of mine were much cleaner on shavings and was a lot less mucking out as before i was having to do a full muckout every day, now its just skip out and remove the wet once a week.

Vote for shavings

I've used equisorb/thorobed (hemp/flax) for quite a while but the price has increased yet again, so just last week swapped to "Bliss" which is chopped rape straw. I'm just using it to top up the existing bed at the moment but I'm quite pleased with it so far. Much more absorbent than normal straw and dust extracted.
