Hi
I’m planning on putting my old boy on shavings once I buy some rubber matting my other horse is already on shavings as he has mild copd and tends to eat straw (fat welsh d).
I was having a look around when I came across cardboard bedding and just wanted to see other people’s views as I found a supplier very close who charges £5.50 a bale I plan to take the wet out everyday as my old lad wee’s for England: O
Any other bedding you know off im welcome to plan to keep both horses on it so cant have neds bed as the welsh eats it regardless what I spray on it! :O

I used to use paper with my horse and found it great! There was more in a bag than shavings and it cost less too.
Dont know anything about cardboard though

I imagine it's a bit like paper bedding, which I don't actually like very much if I'm honest.

Have you considered wood pellets? I tried them when I was on rubber matting & found them great, especially for a wet horse :) x

Once knew a gelding who was put on ripped up egg boxes after being diagnosed with COPD as his owner got them very cheap & she didn't want to pay for shavings. They stuck together, smelled foul & were really hard work to muck out. BUT her boy was a particularly messy so&so.. I guess it's up to you decide whether yours are that messy? :)

Wood pellets are fab for wet horses. I keep my boy on them as I don't have a lot of time in the winter to muck out, he also pees for England. I take the poo out every morning and the wet patch every 7-10 days. No smell and it is so quick to do.

Thanks for your replies the welsh is hit and miss have come down to find all poo in a pile and other times poo everywhere waterbucket haybucket dug into the bed ... (they are days i want to cry) haha
i just watched the vid on the 5 star bedding a loved how quick it was to muck out but can anyone let me know what you do with them iv seen one bed at a yard but what put me of is they were dark brown and it smelt erm like a forest if that makes sence.
so can i have the pros and cons? :D
also cost? i use a bale of shavings a week and was quoted £231.00 for 42 bales of shavings (unbranded) and £11 delivery.
thanks.

straw pellets are the best for a wet horse. I have tried both straw pellets and wood pellets and can say straw pellets are far more absorbent but do tend to be a darker less appealing colour.

I wouldnt go back to shavings now, I'm a complete pellet convert.

Can anyone post a link to a website with some of these pellets please? I'm intrigued.. I don't know whether I'm hearing about something I've no experience of, or something I have but under a different term :p
