So I have "narrowed" it down to the above.

I'm currently on Snowflake Softchip however the bed looks dirty at all times and its soul destroying.

He is in a smaller stable than 12x12 and so something that doesn't get too gross if he moves around is key (the snowflake base when wet stays still).

What are your thoughts on the following and do you have any pics of your beds?

1) Bedmax Excel

2) Allspan

3) Snowflake Supreme

I'm so over bedding! (Please don't recommend any others I've spent all afternoon whittling it down to these as I can get them delivered easily)

Not an answer you want to hear but Laysoft as you can order it by the pallet load from the manufacturer and it works out under £7 a 25kg bale.

Unfortunately I can't store a pallet of bedding.

I can only get the above 3 that I have narrowed it down to.

What's the difference between Bedmax Excel and normal Bedmax? If I can't have straw then Bedmax is always my choice, but I do poo pick the box with rubber gloves before looking for wet, if you don't and use a shavings fork you get through a lot of bed.

Excel has chopped rape straw and shavings in it.

I've ordered some shavings and will see how we get on. If it doesn't go well, I will go back to softchip! Its only bedding, I need to stop getting so stressed with first world problems!

I use a combo of Laysoft (same as Snowflake Softchip) and StableBed (same as Snowflake Supreme) and it works really well.

I really like Laysoft because it's so dense so it catches the wee really well, it's cheap, and it lasts ages. I add in shavings to make it a bit softer (my horse lies down every day and the Laysoft is a bit spiky).

Have you tried Blue Frog ? I moved from Bed Max as Blue Frog far more absorbent and nice fluffy bed
Unfortunately cant get that near me.

I've ordered some shavings that are "like hunters" as hunters are out of stock everywhere. Fingers crossed!
