Grrrrr - national shavings shortage has caught up with us and the only thing our supplier can guarantee getting is bedmax - don't mind the extra cost as I just have one horse and shavings was getting that way anyway,

but how the hell do you muck it? the bits are too big to fall through the prongs and you end up throwing out loads, but with a slightly wider pronged fork the poop falls through and you end up with a dirty bed

is it a case of gloves, a skip and a sore back

or am I missing a 'knack'

I pick up as much of the poo by hand (rubber gloves/skip) as I can before I start sorting the dry from the wet. I find I waste very little this way. I use a normal shavings fork.

I dont like Bedmax, looks lovely when new but just doesnt work for me.
Okay mixed with shavings but dont like a bed of it, found it a nightmare to muck out, smells nice tho

Hmmmmm,. not sure yet, now that a bit of a base has formed it was very quick to muck this morning with a glove. I will make it a bit thicker next week as it's starting to pack down a fair bit (i deep litter & dig out weekly). I will reserve my judgement till i try it for a couple of weeks.

I'd always pick up the droppings by hand, in fact I much out almost completely by gloved hand only using a shavings fork the lay the bed back down and a broom to sweep up. Actually much easier on my back too!

i am obviously the odd 1 out here i love badmax i find it much easier than old shavings that stick to the droppings, i just use a normal shavings fork. i find if i collect the droppings on the fork and then flick them slightly i hardly waste any at all and just take out the droppings and all the wet and put a quarter of a bale in every day.
