After needing to change my horse's bedding as I couldn't stop him eating the Verdo pellets!, I'm now thinking of trying the Littlemax shavings. Have used the original Bedmax alot over the years. Has anyone used Littlemax? How did you get on with it? Prefer those or the original Bedmax? I'll be deep littering through the week and mucking out on a Sunday.

Mine are £7 per 22.5KG bale with delivery free under 20 mile radius minimum 1 pallet, 36 bales on a pallet, white pine shavings. If you are in the Midlands I can send you the details.I found bedmax to be heavy and very expensive, not tried littlemax.

Try Blue Frog I found them more absorbent and fluffy compared to Bed Max and ever so slightly cheaper. They come over from Northern Ireland if you can't them via Facebook they will let you know your nearest stockist. Don't get me wrong I like Bedmax as 2nd choice.

I've yet to find shavings as dust free as bedmax. (Would love to be proved wrong please?!)
Therefore I'd go for Littlemax as I do think small flake are definitely more absorbant.

Bedmax is excellent premium bedding the most free draining dust free shaving I have ever used ,it gives the spore free advantages of good straw combined with very little clumping in the feet they are by far the healthiest bedding I have ever used .
We tried littlemax on a very wet horse it marked his coat too much but worked well mixed with bedmax .
Bedmax mucked out fully daily ( like straw ) is a great option but they are certainly not cheapest way to bed a horse .
Unless your fully mucking out I am not sure you really see all the benefits of bedmax .

I'll say neither - try Hunters. 25kg in a bag, lasts longer as very good absorbency and lovely pine smell, dust free too :)

I used both but prefer be max for cushion and support, I don't see the point of the small flakes as the standard one breaks down in due course to small flakes .

I use littlemax and love it, I don’t like tiny little saw dust kind of shavings like Hunters (I also can’t afford the £8.95 they are in the midlands) and equally don’t like too big a flake as I don’t find it absorbent enough and my grey mare like poo stains. I find little max a good compromise. Absorbent enough that my dirty mare (out overnight mind still mind you) only requires one every couple of weeks. I would say that there doesn’t always seem to very much in a bag though.

I love bedmax for my big clumsy boy who likes to drag his feet through his bed and mix it together- the large flakes and general weight to the bed mean it doesn't move too much, but I tried only mucking out a bedmax bed once a week with my shetland and it was a nightmare, not absorbent enough. I now have him on Aubiose and love it for deep littering- I muck him out every 1-2 weeks, and although it is more expensive per bale, I only need a bale every 2-3 weeks, as opposed to 1 a week on every other bedding I have tried. The wet bits really clump together and it absorbs an amazing amount- it's so heavy when I do muck it out, you can tell how much it's holding! It is always dry and clean on top (if he doesn't dig a big hole). He is on a very strict diet, stabled quite a bit and has never attempted to eat any (and this is a shetland we're talking about, he'll eat almost anything...)

I'm not keen on Bedmax. I don't find it absorbent at all. I prefer easibed. Stable next to me uses bedmax and the amount of wee that comes out of the stable is unreal. Foul! I know that's because they don't use much bedding over their mats but...

That's the whole point of bedmax its giving the advantages of straw without the damage straw does to the horses winds its a poor choice for a miminal bedding system .
