I am thinking of putting Jack onto shavings instead of straw to see if that helps with his runny nose problem (had it all checked by the vet and he says it's just pollen or something like a kid with a snotty nose as there is nothing bacterial or anything untoward when listening to his chest etc). The bales we've had recently have been pretty dusty as they were outside for a bit.

Anyway I just wondered who out there uses bedmax and who uses easibed - which is better and what's the rough cost of a bale of each? He's only in on the odd occasion overnight just now and lives out most of the time in summer but in winter he's in every night and some days and as I work full time I want something quite easy to maintain.

I've just come off Hemcore to use easibed, I used to use shavings or excel (shavings mixed with chopped straw) but mine are dirty pigs! Easibed is very good and at the moment we are getting it for £5.95 per bale - on offer, apparently the RRP is £6.70 but I know people who sell it for £6.50 up to £7.80 a bale. Good luck

I use bedmax - I love the big shaving pieces. So much easier for little things like getting it out there mane and tail, off rugs and cloths, sweeping and I'm sure I take less out. Not sure how much a bale costs though as haven't had to order some for ages.

Switched from Bedmax to Easibed when there was a shortage of Bedmax earlier this year. Never gone back to it as I love Easibed! Depends how you do your beds, but my lot are on rubber matting with Easibed on top. Best thing about it is it doesn't stick to the poo like Bedmax does so I seem to get through less of it.

I did use Bedmax - 100% better than easiebed which I didn't find absorbent enough for my (very clean) gelding.

Have just swapped onto Laysoft which looks like Easibed but is much more absorbent - works well even with OH's filthy mare
