Beds for BIG dogs...

We are soon to move house and are going to treat the dogs to new beds in the utility and new beds in the lounge. Puppy is currently crated overnight, but we may try her in the utility and see how she fares now she is big enough not to be squashed! (Depends how a) clean she is and b) if she settles and doesn't constantly want to play with the big boy, who loves his sleep!) They both currently sleep in the lounge overnight, her crate next to his bed, both snug by the radiator. In the daytime the come to work with me, where we have 30acres and a kennel and run.

Can anyone recommend supportive, durable, washable or waterproof outer, comfy beds? The dog is a 7yr old 65kg mastiff x choc doberman and the bitch is an 8months old cocker spaniel.

My OH wants to buy him a chesterfield?!

Lounge beds need to be smart, not get smelly and could be one bed shared possibly as they won't be there overnight.

Would really like to hear from other BIG dog owners as everything we buy seems to be squashed down to nothing. He is a heavy dog and his bones and joints need good support.

Can't recommend these highly enough-chew proof, too! The boys were using maybe half of the bed here-there are different sizes. (Together, they probably weighed 42 kg.) It's very supportive, is made of strong washable material. It looks like a trampoline but isn't bouncy and can't be dragged through a dog flap!:rolleyes:

If the big lad and the puppies lie down, it's still big enough but I imagine you might want an even bigger size for a bull mastiff. It's a good compromise from an actual sofa, although if we had the room, I might get one!
 
We have a two seater sofa for our greyhound as he likes his comfort, it has removable covers and he has a duvet on th eto that is machine washable too.

Reading that back he sounds like a right spoilt brat. :D
 
Thanks cinammontoast; have something similar in the kennel at work, but want something more 'soft and cosy' for home utility and something more smart and stylish for the lounge... (I now sound as daft as Sammii819, but so know what she means!!!)

We have ordered a lush 3, 2, 1 LA-Z-Boy suite for ourselves (tested better than Stressless!) and it seems only fair that the 'kids' have something equally as nice...

Thank God normal people don't come on here, eh?!
 
Have you got some sort of waterproof cover on the mattress itself? I'm just sure the 'submarining and flumping' spaniel will soon be under the duvet!!!!

Two mastiffs in a bed. They did have one each but refused to use them. I just use old blankets, curtains and duvets. Anything secondhand really. The beds are expensive but really tough. Layer with a cheap duvet. You can buy them for peanuts (£20) tbh. Wash a few times then bin them. Mine usually last a year.

My Mastiffs are no longer allowed on the sofas. Been there and had the sofa trashed!:D Well, lets be honest, Mastiff reality.... been there and had to sit on the floor myself!:D
 
LOL at the mastiffs in bed.

I know its boring but all those who chuck there dog beds/covers in washing machine,check the filter regularly,also the rubber bit inside the "window" as loads of gack can build up.An it will kill the washing machine.

As regards beds,oldest bitch sleeps on old sofa bed in kitchen,dog sleeps at top of stairs an pup still in crate.

My dogs not allowed on my sofa or chairs,an dont get on even when im out or asleep.(honest)

chesterfield good idea can get cheap 2nd hand as well ,it doesent absorb smell or moisture.A good wipe over with leather treatment an all is good.
 
I also use cot mattresses for dogs bed. They come wrapped in plastic which I leave on to stop the mattress getting smelly, I then just chuck an old sleeping bag over it. The sleeping bags with the shiny material are great cos the hairs don't get woven into it:)

Great thing about these is that the cover comes off and on EASILY and you don't feel like you've done an hours workout trying to get the bleddy thing back on!!
