After hovis went show jumping last week i've been regaled with several amusing comments that were made abou my boy.

Apparenty hubby and hovis rode into the ring and two rather posh ladies turned to each other and said "crikey he's a big heavy horse, i'm surpirsed he will even get his feet off the floor. " followed by "well I wasn't expecting that. do his feathers help him get lift off?" as Hovis thundered around the course.

My mate then turned to them and said - "we've brought all the babies from the yard tonight apart from this next horse that used to be an intermediate eventer" the horse ground to a halt 3 times in front of a 65cm fence. "Well not anymore..."

So what funny comments have you over heard / had said to you recently about horses?

'Give him 3 of the best to wake him up'

Said by a lady when I was at a local show......Monty hadn't even done anything yet, I had only just mounted! Her very expensive horse who she was beating round the course in spurs then proceeded to bronc all over the place until she fell off........SHAME!

'funny little thing isn't she'

Said by a man out hunting when seeing me on my 14.3 hairy one-eyed pony. I soon saw his horse flying past with no rider.......definate karma!

We have an 11.2 shetland cross (he is always cross) and he has very short legs on a sturdy body.

At a local xc course I stood by a jump ready to video daughter and pony. She had gone round earlier in the pairs, and as they approached the fence, one jump judge turned to the other and said, "Here comes Stumpy!". I was so busy laughing I forgot to press record. He has since been nicknamed Stumpy by all our friends.

At another sj show, OH and I mentioned to the organiser that we were looking for the next pony size up for daughter. They asked why, and I explained that despite his willing nature, the pony found it difficult to jump, what with his short legs and large stomach. "Didn't stop you marrying your OH though did it?" came the quick remark. Everyone around us was aghast, not realising OH and organiser were good friends and shared the same sense of humour

'she's a big girl isn't she'

A VERY experienced vet before proceeding to attempt to inject my friend's 17hh HW GELDING to get rid of the 'foal' after a confirmed rig was in the field with our horses.

'does that look controlled...? No I don't think it does!' said by a judge when I was handbraking it around the corner trying to get my girlie to slow down back to a nice collected cnter in my working hunter class! She had only just learn to jump and having jumps in the ring set her off with overexcitement.

We all laughed (including the judge) I had a blast that day!

Heard outside a dressage arena from lady on elegant horse to adult pony rider, Have you done dressage before? in a condescending sort of way, the pony won the class.
